On April 18, 1906 an earthquake and fire destroyed much of San Francisco -- 530 people died, with $350 million worth of damage done.
In the same month and year as the San Francisco event, a DIVINE earthquake (Acts 4:31) hit Los Angeles with an incredible outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This evolved into a vast movement numbering more than 500 million worldwide today, 100 years later. The Azusa Street Centennial will be held April 25-29 in Los Angeles. Thousands of people will gather in for the 100th anniversary celebration of the 1906 Azusa Street Revival which changed the face of the church and birthed an unprecedented move of God that continues today. Hallelujah!
Quoting from the Foursquare Advance:
"The powerful movements of God that preceded 20th Century Christianity -- the FIrst and Second Great Awakenings, the Holiness Movement [and others]....had created an atmosphere ready for a movement of greater global impact that would find its culmination in the stragegic city of Los Angeles. In an old church building that was being used as a stable, the Holy Spirit would arrive in power, just as He had 1900 years prior at the birth of the church, and SHAKE the foundations of the Christian faith, making more room for the glory of God on the earth. One hundred years later, Christianity....still experiences the AFTERSHOCKS of the 1906 Asusa Street Revival. (emphasis added).

"....on April 12, 1906, there were so many coming to see and experience the glory and power of God that the front porch of the house [on Bonnie Brae Street] collapsed under the weight of the attendees. On April 14, 1906 the first meeting was held at 312 Azusa Street, an abandoned African Methodist Episcopal Church building that was being used as a stable.

"On April 18, 1906 -- the same day of the infamous San Francisco earthquake -- the headlines of the LOS ANGELES TIMES read: 'Wierd Babel of Tongues'; 'New Sect of Fanatics is Breaking Losse'; 'Wild Scene Last Night on Azusa Street'; 'Gurgle of Wordless Talk by a Sister' "
"During April 25-29, 2006, celebrations will include daily tours of the various Pentecostal landmarks including the Bonnie Brae Street house, the Azusa Street Mission site, and Angelus Temple For the first time, guests from around the world will also be able to visit the Parsonage of Aimee Semple McPherson, world famous evangelist and founder of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, next door to Angelus Temple. Visitors to her home -- restored with original furniture, photographs, props, personal artifacts and displays -- will encounter her famous illustrated sermons, her inspirational music, her personal challenges, her spirit of triumphs, and lasting legacy."
